Quick answers

Straight Answers

A quote over the phone is only as good as what you can tell us, and some things can't be told, they have to be looked at.

Close number before visit

If you know the door is a double, steel, roughly a foot and a half of headroom, and the spring is broken, we can give you a close number before we pull up. If you just know "it won't open," we can give you a range, not a price.

Quote-sharpening door details

Here's what sharpens a quote fast: the door's width (single around 8-9 ft, double around 16 ft), whether it's steel, wood, or aluminum, how old the opener is, and whether the springs are torsion (mounted on a bar above the door) or extension (stretched along the tracks).

Photos beat phone descriptions

A photo from your phone, close up on the spring area and the track, does more for pricing accuracy than a five-minute phone description. What we can't price sight unseen: anything involving a bent or twisted track, rust-seized hinges, or a panel that's been hit and may have thrown the door out of square. Those need a tech standing in front of the door with a level and a tape measure.

Honest about age variance

We'd rather tell you that up front than quote low and surprise you at the door. Given the age spread of housing in this area, builds running from the early 1950s through the 2010s, the hardware on a given job varies more than you'd expect from two houses on the same block. That's the real reason we ask questions before we quote.

Service area

Where We Work

We're based at 12800 Middlebrook Rd in Germantown and run jobs through the surrounding area: Montgomery Village, Clarksburg, and Washington Grove are all close, inside a five-mile stretch.

Nearby towns in range

We also cover North Potomac, Darnestown, Redland, and Derwood, each under ten miles out, and go as far as Damascus, Travilah, and Poolesville. We still take calls from Olney, Aspen Hill, Urbana, Wheaton, and Kensington, among other areas across the region.

Mention address when calling

If your address is near one of these, mention it when you call so we can route the truck efficiently. The winters here are cold enough that steel contracts and hardware that's already borderline will show it first in January, not July.

Far-edge scheduling tradeoff

If you're on the far edge of our range and it's a minor adjustment, we'll tell you honestly if it makes more sense to time the visit around other calls in your area rather than rush out same-day.

Further out, we still take calls from Olney, Aspen Hill, Urbana, Green Valley, North Bethesda, Monrovia, Garrett Park, North Kensington, Wheaton, Ashton-Sandy Spring, Adamstown, Kensington, Cabin John, Mount Airy, New Market, South Kensington, Cloverly, Lisbon, Spencerville, and Colesville.

Our limits

Work We Turn Down

We work on residential garage doors and openers: torsion and extension springs, cables, rollers, tracks, panels, and the usual opener brands homeowners install. That's the job.

We don't do commercial overhead doors, rolling steel doors, or fire-rated doors, that's a different trade with different hardware entirely. We also don't recommend repairing a door where the frame itself has shifted from foundation settling. At that point, the door isn't the problem, and spending money on springs or tracks won't fix a frame that's out of square. We'll say so rather than sell you a repair that won't hold.

A technician works on a wooden garage door of a house covered in snow.

Given the age range of housing stock in this service area, median build year in the mid-1980s but plenty of homes from the 1950s still standing, we see original one-piece doors and obsolete track hardware often enough that we keep an eye out for it. Parts for some of that older gear are genuinely hard to source, and if a repair would mean weeks of waiting on a discontinued part, we'll tell you that replacement is the faster and often cheaper path, even though that's less work for us than a repair call.

Questions

Common questions

Can you give me a price without coming out?

Sometimes, if you can tell us the door width, material, and whether it's a spring or opener problem. A photo of the spring and track area helps a lot. Anything involving a bent track or a door knocked out of square needs an in-person look before we can quote it accurately.

Do you work on doors outside Germantown itself?

Yes. We cover Montgomery Village, Clarksburg, and Washington Grove close by, and range out to places like North Potomac, Derwood, Damascus, and Poolesville. If you're near one of the areas we list, mention it when you call so we can plan the route.

What won't you repair?

We don't work on commercial or fire-rated overhead doors, and we won't try to patch a door where the frame has shifted from foundation movement. In those cases we'll tell you plainly that the repair won't hold and point you toward what actually needs fixing.

My house is older, will parts be a problem?

It can be. Some homes in this area date back to the early 1950s, and original one-piece doors or older track hardware sometimes use parts that are no longer made. When that's the case, we'll tell you upfront whether replacement makes more sense than waiting on a part.
